Tapping into Your Inner Wisdom
Episode #43
Consistency is key to so much in life but how does it really affect us? This episode with Nicole McGrath helps to dive into what consistency, inner wisdom, and the power of self can achieve.
Impact of Past Experiences on Beliefs and Behaviors
How does our past relate to our future? Nicole emphasized the importance of self-awareness and understanding that many beliefs and habits are not necessarily one’s own, but rather a product of past experiences. They also highlighted the need to address and potentially heal these past experiences to improve one’s current life. The conversation concluded with a call to focus on the present and remember that life doesn’t always have to be stressful or anxious.
Tapping Inner Wisdom for Life Guidance
A discussion surrounding the importance of tapping into one’s inner wisdom to guide life decisions opened up. Nicole suggested methods such as observing thoughts and recognizing negative limiting thoughts as not representative of oneself. She also emphasized the role of feelings as guides, noting that uncomfortable feelings indicate a misalignment with oneself and can be released or healed. Nicole shared her personal practice of giving negative thoughts a name to distance herself from them. Megan appreciated this perspective, viewing it as a concrete way to separate oneself from negative thoughts.
Emotional Release: A Challenging Benefit
Megan and Nicole discussed the importance of acknowledging and addressing discomforting emotions instead of resisting or distracting oneself from them. Megan shared an example of how her husband was able to release his anxiety by articulating his thoughts and concerns. Nicole emphasized that societal pressure to avoid uncomfortable feelings often leads to resistance and suggested that releasing these emotions could help prevent them from escalating. They agreed that identifying and redirecting one’s responses to discomforting emotions could be a challenging but beneficial process.
Conscious Choices for Personal Change
Megan and Nicole discussed the importance of making conscious choices to effect personal and professional change. Nicole shared her approach, which includes acknowledging and expressing feelings, and then choosing a different experience, thereby effectively changing her reality. They also touched on the difficulty of taking action, especially when one is inundated with information about self-improvement, and the importance of validation and habit-building in the process.
Self-Trust and Small Changes for Personal Growth
Megan and Nicole discussed the power of self-trust and small changes in achieving personal growth. They emphasized the importance of focusing on one task at a time, celebrating small wins, and enjoying the present moment. They also touched on the idea of erasing societal programming that prevents people from trusting themselves. The conversation concluded with Nicole encouraging listeners to trust their inner guidance and take consistent action towards their goals, even when the journey is challenging.
